Frequently Asked Questions. Often found on web pages and discussion lists, these are questions that have already been asked about the subject.

Field
| Each record in a database is made of segments, called fields. For instance, author's name or title.

Fieldwork

Finals
| Finals is the name given to the final exams taken by students at the end of their study. In the past nearly all of the assessment for a degree was based on the outcome of these exams. Most degrees today rely far less on the results from finals and tend to use assessment throughout the duration of the course.

Foundation Courses |
A Foundation Year is a bridging year between Further and Higher Education.
It is generally considered to be a higher education course because the syllabus is validated by the University, it is supported by the HE Funding Council
and you can apply through UCAS.
Most foundation students will progress on to take an honours degree course, but there are other courses in HE that are stepping stones to a degree, such as a Diploma in HE, HND (Higher National Diploma). |

Foundation degrees |
These are new courses run closely in partnership with industry and commerce. (Not to be confused with a Foundation year.) |
Freshers
| Students beginning their time at a university are often referred to as Freshers. A Freshers Week may be organised to introduce them to university life. This can include social events as well as introduction to libraries and other resources.
