Writing for Headstart —
Why do I need to know this?

This page of a module explains the relevance of the subject.

You should state in simple terms why the subject is significant.

There is no need to go into detail - but the subject should be put into a context.

You might explain the relationship of the subject to other modules.

Or you might explain the importance of the skills acquired by completing the module.

You might suggest the relevance of the subject to the student's current or future studies.

Your task is to make the subject's relevance as briefly as possible.

Your writing task now is to draft the content of a 'Why do I need to know this?' page for your course module.

You can make preliminary notes, then SAVE your work. The purpose of this exercise is to clarify both the content and the structure of a module. It is not to complete the writing of the whole module.

Here is a page template in Microsoft Word format. It contains the instructions written above, which can be deleted when you have composed your notes.
